The 28th Annual Kona Brewers Festival is back in original form happening March 11th, 2023 and is proud to announce a new co-executive director of the event, Maggie Stith, who will be leading the 2023 event with long-time executive director, Kate Jacobson. This beloved event that sells out every year is hosted by The Ke Kai Ala Foundation, and is a community celebration and fundraiser that benefits Hawai’i programs supporting environment, culture and youth. Attendees can enjoy tastings of over 30 local and craft brews, gourmet bites from over 24 local chefs, live music, and the much anticipated Trash Fashion show. To promote sustainability, Kona Brewers Festival is a zero waste event that takes place at Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel lūʻau grounds in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. The event is made possible thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers who do everything from pour beer, oversee operations to ensure zero waste, and throw a really great party.
Kate has been at the helm of the Kona Brewers Festival for the last 14 years and is looking forward to the transition of leadership over to Maggie.
According to Kate, “It’s been a joy and an honor to work with the Kona Brewers Festival Planning Team. Festivals provide a lively and fun way to build social networks with people of different perspectives. Maggie has a great reputation for inspiring people to their highest abilities and having a great time doing it”. Ms Jacobson will continue her support of the Kona Brewers Festival as a member of the Board of Directors of The Ke Kai Ala Foundation.
Maggie says, “I’ve been in the restaurant industry in Kona for over 12 years now, and I love to bring people together over food and drink to create memories. The Kona Brewers Festival has provided me with so many fond memories and I am excited to work with Kate and be a part of making it happen this year and for many years to come.”
Core to the event’s ethos is a commitment to sustainability. The festival includes live music and entertainment including the evening’s highlight, the Trash Fashion Show, where artists craft elaborate haute couture fashions made from completely recycled materials. As part of a zero waste commitment, over 90% of festival waste is diverted from landfills by converting waste into composted soil for local school gardens.

The Kona Brewers Festival has a mission of promoting Hawai’i’s cultural values, sustainable environmental practices, and bolstering community-based programs while providing a fantastic gathering for residents and visitors alike. Over the years, this event has raised more than $1.4 million in low restriction funds for island organizations. The event took a restricted format during the COVID-19 pandemic but still managed to raise funds and provide support to local nonprofits who were so in need of the funds during that difficult time. We are grateful and honored to host this event and give back to the community.
