Kona Brewers Festival Raises $125,000
The Kona Brewers Festival is a food and fun focused community gathering in the sand on the shores of Kamakahonu Bay.The Festival raises funds for some of Hawaii Island’s most important programs. Festival goers buy an all inclusive ticket to enjoy a true cultural and culinary experience enjoying delicious US and Hawaii made craft beer, as well as some of the very best Hawaii Island style cuisine. The Ke Kai Ala Foundation has announced that the 2018 Kona Brewers Festival raised more than $110,000 for Island programs in a single day, with well over One Million dollars raised since it’s inception.
Each fall, Hawaii Island programs focusing on environment, culture, and youth, apply to partner with the Kona Brewers Festival. Accepted beneficiary programs send teams of volunteers to run the event, and in turn, are gifted dollars to run their programs year round. The 2018 beneficiaries represent more than 20 Island non-profit groups (list follows). “The Kona BrewFest is a beloved community gathering where friends and visitors alike celebrate community collaboration, responsible guidance and commitment to a sustainable legacy.” says Executive Director, Kate Jacobson.
In addition to the 2018 applicant beneficiaries, The Ke Kai Ala Foundation is partnering with The Bill Healy Foundation and donating $15,000 to help purchase a mobile hygiene trailer for people displaced by the recent lava eruptions. The funds will be donated to Project Vision Hawaii for Pu’uhonua o Puna. Commenting on the exceptional response of people helping people in their time of need, “This is a marathon, not a sprint. We are in this for the long haul, and will continue to serve our community throughout the lava eruption and beyond.” -The Hub, Pu’uhonua o Puna
